so i finally convinced someone in our house to watch a season of twenty four with me. erica is being a champ. we are three episodes into season four so far, and i believe that the presence of leighton meester as the girlfriend of the son of two conniving supporters of terrorism really keeps her captivated. too bad our girl blair waldorf follows her guy to a sketcho warehouse without his knowledge. the terrorists detect her presence. erica says she's dead meat soon. bummer, because she has really cute clothes in gossip girl.
while the lives of those rescuing the world are far more interesting than my own, i will update you on mine anyways. i spent a few days at lake rabun in georgia with my dad and his ladyfriend and her family. when i first arrived, we had dinner, and my dad has yet to accept that i am a vegetarian. he needs to just get over it. so, when he grilled my veggie burger, he stuck in on the same plate as all of the steaks, and i watched, mesmerized, as the steak juices seeped ever so steadily into my garden patty. but that's okay, they said, because we were having potatoes too! in actuality, we were having twice baked potatoes. they appeared to be simply topped with bacon, which i scraped off immediately, but no. the bacon had been folded into the potatoes, and there was a lot of it. low blow.
but other than being forced into omnivorous ways, i had a fantabulous time at the lake. we played the extremely sick and twisted game of how violently and quickly we can throw someone off the tube towing behind the boat. which is how i ended up with a 180 pound man rolling over me and elbowing me in the face. the sheer terror associated with that game reminds me of extreme and painful sports, like boxing and wrestling. or gladiators. waterskiing didn't work out well either. didn't realize how difficult it is. maybe next time. it was nice to be on the water all day, and the lake is in the mountains and very picturesque. we even went to boat church. seriously. everyone comes on a boat and a man gives the sermon from another boat. cool.cool.cool.
it's nice to be back home though. our lawn is looking lovely. erica and christina and i toiled in the yard a few days ago pushing the weed eater around. erica is a beast. and we trimmed the weeds around the mailbox and such with scissors. in case the neighbors didn't already think we were insane. i got to teach kids how to swim at the ymca yesterday, which i will be doing 3-4 times a week for the rest of the summer. it was really cool to see them start to feel comfortable in the water. we learned the frog kick, how to blow bubbles under the water, and we sang row row row your boat while we kept our heads above the surface. then i sunk while teaching them how to float. i should probs practice that.
can't wait for our third potluck dinner tonight. counting on some guitars and hopefully another thunderstorm to knock the power out. we should keep cray cray jay from singing though. he makes awkward lyrics and jessica can't cope.
to end, i would like to complain about the blaring absence of rebecca black's friday video on youtube. gone. gone. gone. something about copyright info. now i can't hear her sing about whether she should take the front seat or the back seat of the convertible. so.very.tragic.

mario! luigi!
so my dad never says what he wants for father's day. he always says, "you don't need to get me anything." yea right. i know he's thinking, "if only i could tell her about the deer in kansas i shot that really needs to be mounted."but this father's day i made him fess up, and it turns out he wants a grapefruit squeezer. i still maintain that i will buy him milk, as i strongly suspect he will use it and it won't turn up in the cabinet above the refrigerator with the panini maker and waffle maker and other stuff i have so lovingly bestowed upon him on father's day. if it did end up there, we would have bigger problems including but not limited to stench, maggots, and perhaps e-coli. and his only daughter may abandon him. thus, my primary goal for today is to locate a quality grapefruit squeezer. oh, and get a job.
the past couple days have been pretty good. on sunday, jessica, cray cray jay, and i ventured to the pool. i find myself third-wheeling a lot lately. third-wheeling is one of my most favorite activities....! but cray cray jay is a professional at that so i don't feel so bad. after begging like mishka and becko (meowwwww), i convinced jessica and cray cray jay to play marco polo with me. as we are children of the early 90s, it turned into mario! luigi! instead of marco! polo! for a little while. unfortunately, we were unable to enter the castle to locate the secret stars and defeat bowser by swinging him around by his tail. anyone remember the snowy scene with the penquins and bobsleds? that was my FAVE. the only thing that compared was the level where you could fly around and there were rainbows and stuff. i do enjoy flying.
i can't seem to remember what i did after the pool, but i suspect it was remotely productive. at least i hope it was.
on monday, i took my car in. the maintenance light had been on for around 800 miles (don't judge), and the accelerator pedal had begun to stick. when i asked him what that meant, erika's race walking coach, who is helping to train us amateurs, told me that meant i should be driving the car under no circumstances. go figure. after dropping off lucy, my car, i was picked up by cray cray jay, and we ventured around to multiple law enforcement offices in the area to get him and his band approved for rockin out downtown. apparently cray cray jay hasn't committed any serious crimes. that they know about. don't worry, band, my lips are sealed.
yesterday, i pac-ed it up and witnessed a whole lot of incoming freshman basketball players aka giants. quite tall. empire state building status. i shouldn't be intimidated by freshmen, but i was. they were just so TALL. i ran into katie, and we decided to plan a fourth of july camping trip into the great outdoors. should you decide to come with us, don't forget to remember your bear bells, mosquito nets, freeze-dried mac and cheese, and of course your sticks to scare off the mountain lions. right, meredith?
last night, erica, jessica, taylor, cray cray jay, and i played just dance on taylor's wii. have you noticed that cray cray jay is most often surrounded by only women? taylor is freakin awesome at that game. she can do the worm, the coffee-grinder, double back handsprings and the shopping cart, the hardest move of them of them all. i am horrendous. seriously. awful. if you want to ruthlessly mock your friends and blackmail them with videos (i enjoy activities such as these), invest in the game asap.
i'm off to 1. buy a grapefruit squeezer, 2. re-glue myself to the tv and the bold endeavors of american hero jack bauer (he is real btw. the government is attempting to protect national security by disguising him as keifer sutherland. but seriously), 3. eat the rest of the box of strawberries i bought last night, and 4. wait what was number four!? ahhhhh. oh yea, get a job.
wow, i can't believe you're still reading. i like you.

un.be.liev.a.ble
i am fascinated with how many of you are actually reading this. it makes me feel really cool. disclaimer: i'm not. but please continue to read. like i said, it makes me feel cool.
jessica and i had a fabulous time in winnsboro, the city that never sleeps. first, we went swimming. my 15 year old golden retriever decided to join us. next, we went blackberry picking back in the woods. we took my dad's "badboy buggy," which, let me tell you, is no ordinary golf cart. stats:
camo
four wheel drive
complete with gun rest
ability to go really freakin fast down a very steep hill. oops. that was dangerous.
so we made it to the patch on some land that isn't ours (shhh) and discovered that 99.99999999% of the berries were red. but we, determined to collect enough berries for a teeny tiny tartlett, pressed on and did some major foraging (hence lots of scratches). somehow jessica managed to come out relatively void of bug bites, while i was red all over and frantically searched for benadryl. that stuff stingz.
after our back woods adventure, we made our way to the barn to pet the horses. jessica said: "i've always wanted to comb a horse." so i looked at her, stunned, and replied, "you've never combed a horse?" then we got in a small friendly tiff about whether it was or wasn't abnormal that she had never combed a horse. i lost when cray cray jay showed up and had never combed a horse either.....
afterwards, we climbed to the third story of the barn and looked out over the field and pond. and the back of a red lawnmower than seemed to be stuck in the middle of the field. hm. i then learned that cray cray jay knudsen's nickname (which has spread its way even into the vocabulary of mr. young, director of north village housing and fraternities or something like that) is knoodles. cute, cray cray jay, cute.
we trekked the long 1/16 of a mile back to the house and began a game of scrabble, which luckily this time was not turkish and thus had a normal amount of Ks. the game ended so fast because there was nothing to go off of, and let's just say the scores ended up something like 90, 120, and 30.....i'll leave it to you to figure out who got what. it's not what you think.
after, we flipped a coin to decide between two movies: blow and the a-team. blow won, but after fidgeting with many a wire on the back of both TVs in the house, we realized it wasn't going to happen. and if it had worked, we would have been watching the movie in black and white. we need a new DVD player. so, we watched it on cray cray jay's computer (year, cray cray jay, you are gonna need to get over that i'm only referring to you as such), but jessica fell asleep after approximately four seconds. un.be.liev.a.ble.
so that was our day and night, complete with a papillon, enough blackberries to make a small tartlett in the pre-made shortbread crust we discovered in the pantry, a room with a view (anyone read it?), actually a barn floor with a view, dark chocolate covered edamame, and cold showers. thanks for telling us the hot water heater was off, dad.
now we are back in the big city and having a blast like we do. i'd say we got our bonafide country experience.
we'll miss you winnsboro, or should i say tinseltown.

cake cookies and country strong
last night i decided to make cookies to thank joe, who met cray cray jay in columbia in order to deliver my beloved papillon. jay called papillon "the package." i told him joe would be wearing a black hoodie and be on the back side of the gas station, but nah he showed up normal.
so, i made these cake cookies from erica's 5 ingredients or less cookbook.
how to make them, you ask....
mix one box of devil's food cake mix, 2 tablespoons melted butter, 4 tablespoons water, 2 eggs, any sort of chocolate or peanut butter or caramel chips. spoon one inch plops of mix onto a greased pan. bake 10-12 minutes on 350 degrees.
yea, i said 10-12 minutes, not 60 like i did. oops. the house smelled like it was going to burn down but still my amnesia kicked in and i had forgotten about the last pan worth. needless to say, they are black and pretty much charcoal. i considered feeding them to mishie and becks the skinny cats to fatten them up a bit, but i decided against it.
the cookies that baked the right amount, however, are delish. i recommend them.
heading to winnsboro in an hour with jpate. the city of dreams but mostly nothing. we plan on four-wheeling and hopefully riding horses. fun fun fun. we wanna watch Country Strong, too. never seen it. basically, we want a bonafide country weekend, you feel me?
blog you on the flipside.
